What qualities does BVC seek in applicants?Berkeley Venture Capital seeks individuals who demonstrate curiosity, a proactive mindset, and a genuine interest in venture capital, startups, and entrepreneurship. While prior experience in investing or finance is not a requirement, we value applicants who exhibit critical thinking, creativity, and a collaborative spirit. We are particularly interested in those who bring diverse perspectives and are eager to learn and contribute meaningfully to our organization.

Is prior knowledge of venture capital or investing required to apply?No, prior knowledge is not required. BVC is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where members from all backgrounds can thrive. We provide comprehensive training, mentorship, and hands-on learning opportunities to help new members build a strong foundation in venture capital, regardless of their prior experience.

Are applications open to students from all majors and academic years?We welcome applications from students of all majors and but only undergraduate level students at UC Berkeley. BVC values diverse academic and professional perspectives from a diversity in majors, which we believe are essential for evaluating startups and understanding dynamic market trends.

How many applicants does BVC typically accept each semester?The number of applicants accepted each semester varies based on organizational needs and applicant quality. On average, BVC admits a cohort of 10–15 members per semester to ensure a collaborative environment where every member can engage meaningfully with our projects and initiatives.

Are recruitment events mandatory?While recruitment events, such as information sessions and meet-and-greets, are not mandatory, attendance is highly recommended. These events provide valuable insights into BVC’s culture, the recruitment process, and opportunities to connect with current members. Specific components of the application process, such as interviews, are mandatory for all applicants.
